CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina, USA: Dr Eric Schopler, an
international pioneer in the humane and effective treatment of autism,
died from cancer on July 7, 2006, at the age of 79.
Forty-one years ago, Dr Schopler, then a
psychologist at the University of North Carolina, co-founded a
programme which rejected the notion that destructive parents caused
autism. Instead, he recognised autism as a brain disorder - one that
could be managed...
