PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, USA: A new United States study provides
evidence that autism affects the functioning of virtually the entire
brain, and is not limited to the brain areas involved with social
interactions, communication behaviours and reasoning abilities, as had
been previously thought.
Dr Nancy Minshew and her colleagues, Diane Williams
and Gerald Goldstein, of the University of Pittsburgh School of
Medicine compared 56 children with autism with 56 who did not have the
condition. Those with autism were found to have more problems with
complex tasks, such as tying their shoelaces, suggesting many areas of
the brain were affected ...
